Apart from the extension/renovation of the building on the north side in 2001, several functionalities of the Masjid had deteriorated over the period of almost three decades. Many improvement projects in the Masjid were undertaken due to either being mandated by the City Hall and Fire Department or considerations of safety and convenience of the congregation. The overall cost of these improvements is estimated to be about $ 95,000. Some of those projects are listed below. We are grateful to brothers and sisters who have generously donated for the Jami Masjid. May Allah Taala accept your generosity and grant Paradise out of His mercy, Amin.

• Fire Alarm System: The installation of a new fire alarm system started in about July 2006. About 90% of the work has been completed. The remaining work involvesinstallation of smoke detectors in a very high ceiling (46-48 feet high). The pull stations were protected by installing the child-deterrent covers with horn to protect them from children’s mischief. A new Fire Safety Plan was written and approved by the Fire Department.

• New Architectural Plans: These plans have been completed. These plans are under review for approval by an engineer whose expertise is in fire alarm systems. Soon after that, these plans will be submitted to the Toronto City Hall for their approval. 

• Fire-Rated Doors: As required by the Fire Department, we are in the process of installing several new fire-rated doors, self-closures, and other related items.

• Emergency Lighting: We have already installed new emergency lighting system which includes lighted EXIT signs, emergency lights, and fire extinguishers.

• Video Surveillance System:  A new system has been installed which includes several video cameras and continuous recording system due to the recent attacks and vandalizing attempts on the building.

• Website:  The control of the website of Jami Mosque was regained following a legal action. The new website has been developed. It will be continuously improved, Insha Allah. This website was launched on September 10, 2007.

• Electric fans: For the convenience of worshippers in the summer months, several heavy-duty wall-mounted fans were installed.

• Sound System: The public address sound system in the Masjid has been unsatisfactory and deteriorated over the time. Currently, it is in the process of being updated.

• Bookstore: The operation of the bookstore is in the process of improvement using computerized procedures.

There are other projects for improvement at different stages.
